Two Turkish military attaches working in Greece have fled the country for Italy after the failed military coup attempt, Turkey’s foreign minister said Thursday, while reports said a naval officer based in the USA has also gone missing.

“We are solidly behind Turkey on this issue and we support democracy anywhere it is”, he said.

The ban, which prevented supporters of major domestic teams including Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Trabzonspor and Bursaspor from traveling to away matches, was instituted almost five years ago in an effort to prevent fighting among soccer supporters.

Cakil had late last month revealed that the Turkish government had requested the closure of 17 school in Nigeria with links to the alleged mastermind of the botched coup plot, US-based Turk, Fetullah Gulen.

“Turkey’s military attache in Bosnia was not called to Ankara, he is doing his business as usual”, the press officer said. Turkey has been angered by the Western response, viewing Europe as more concerned about the rights of the plotters than the events themselves and the United States as reluctant to extradite Gulen.

Selahattin Demirtas, co-chairman of the the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the main political party of Turkey’s largest ethnic minority the Kurds, was not invited to the palace or the big Istanbul rally.

The Islamic republic was among the first countries to condemn the aborted coup in Turkey and expressed support for the legitimate Turkish government. “His attitude toward the HDP will only change after he has militarily defeated the PKK”, said Cagaptay.

The announcement of the visit comes two days after a key encounter between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Erdogan, who met face-to-face for the first time since relations were damaged after Turkey shot down a Russian jet over Syria in November 2015.
