Dier, 22, made the decision to return to his native England at the beginning of the 2014-15 season, and has gone onto make 91 appearances for the North Londoners scoring six goals in the process.

Dier joins team-mate Christian Eriksen in committing his future to Tottenham, with the Denmark midfielder having agreed a fresh four-year deal last week. Following a season of playing in defence, Pochettino transformed him into the classy defensive midfielder instrumental to much of their progress.

Tottenham finished third in the Premier League last season and play AS Monaco in their opening Champions League Group E match at Wembley on Wednesday.

Full-back Kyle Walker, Dier’s England team-mate, is also reportedly close to agreeing a new long-term contract at White Hart Lane.

There were question marks over Dier’s future as a first team player at the club when Victor Wanyama was signed in the summer, with many thinking that he’d come in to play alongside Mousa Dembele, sidelining Dier. We’ve got the new stadium on its way, the fantastic facilities at the training ground, and a fantastic manager who’s great for all us young players.

“Wembley being filled with 80,000 or more Tottenham fans is going to be an fantastic experience”, Dier added.

“Playing the Champions League there is going to be very unique, so these two things are going to be fantastic tomorrow night”.
