Erick Aybar: Tigers acquire infielder Erick Aybar from ATL

In naming him the Braves’ No. 1 overall prospect, MLB.com noted that with “his quickness, hands and arm strength, Swanson should stay at shortstop long term”.

With the season getting set to head down the home stretch, the Atlanta Braves are getting an early jump on calling up one of their top prospects.

The Dansby Swanson era begins Wednesday night for the Atlanta Braves. While Swanson saw a significant drop in production after moving up to MS and may be in line for more growing pains with another jump in levels, he will gain valuable experience over the final couple months in preparation for the Opening Day nod in 2017.

He obliterated High-A to the tune of a.333 batting average and 13 extra-base hits in 21 games before being moved up to Double-A MS, where he has spent the majority of his season.

Top of the heap: J.A. Happ (16-3, 2.96) goes for his major league-leading 17th win when the Blue Jays wrap up their three-game series in NY against CC Sabathia (7-9, 4.20) and the Yankees. Atlanta is 25 ½ games behind the first place Washington Nationals.

Minnesota led 2-0 in the first on Max Kepler’s RBI single and Tyler Plouffe’s RBI double. Hursh had trouble throwing strikes or fooling anyone, walking the bases loaded and then allowing a two-run single to Brian Dozier.

Juan Centeno drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth, and Minnesota swept the two-game series of the major leagues’ two worst teams. Nick Markakis’ ninth homer made it 10-3 in the ninth. Plouffe had three hits and three RBIs.

Following Atlanta’s trade of shortstop Erick Aybar to the Detroit Tigers to help them fill a need up in the middle, Swanson finally got the call. After a rain delay of more than two hours ended the night of Rockies starter Chad Bettis, Rusin bridged the gap to the back end of the bullpen with three efficient, scoreless innings.

The former Marietta High School star and top-rated prospect will have his contract selected from the Braves’ Double-A MS affiliate and be in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, the major league team revealed Tuesday.

Twins: Twins manager Paul Molitor said Miguel Sano could return to Wednesday’s lineup after missing the last three games with a sore right elbow. The homer marked a career high for Freeman, who hit 23 in two previous seasons.
