Ernst hopes Trump focuses Roast and Ride remarks on issues
At a news conference to explain the benefits of the ride for a veteran’s charity, Ernst was confronted with a question about one of the latest controversies for Trump’s campaign: reports of CEO Steve Bannon’s domestic violence charge from his first marriage. Smiling, Zegers attributed Trump’s original reversal to the advice of consultants and said the reversal of the reversal was just what the boisterous crowd of Trump supporters wanted to hear.

At the Iowa event, Trump also previewed his immigration plans, saying he was developing an “exit-entry tracking system to ensure those who overstay their visas, that they’re quickly removed”.
To keep illegal migrants out, Trump has promised to build a wall on America’s southern border – to be paid for, he has declared at rally after campaign rally, by Mexico.
“If I have an opportunity I would tell him to just focus, focus on policy”, Ernst told CNN. “That has been the centerpiece of his candidacy and his immigration from the beginning it has not changed one inch”, she said.
Trump has insisted this week that his position has not changed.
Republicans have said that Clinton’s use of a personal email server as secretary of state – an action described as “extremely careless” by FBI Director James Comey – should disqualify her from receiving classified briefings.
Iowa remains a bright spot for Trump on the 2016 election map amid a sea of challenging battleground states.
That seems to be possible scenario after top campaign officials retreated Sunday on both his signature “deportation force” to remove 11 million immigrants, but also on the possibility of granting legal status to certain immigrants.
Aides have said he would announce his immigration policy in a speech in the coming days, but his campaign has yet to set a date.
“These worldwide gangs of thugs and drug cartels will be, I promise you, from the first day in office the first thing I’m going to do, the first piece of paper that I’m going to sign is we’re going to get rid of these people, day one, before the wall, before anything”, he said to boisterous cheers.
That was a major departure from his previous calls for mass deportation of all 11 million undocumented immigrants.
Amid a fierce period of campaigning, Clinton and Trump are also taking time to warm up for their biggest showdowns. Pence also did not answer whether the campaign believes, as Trump has said, that children born to people who are in the US illegally are not USA citizens.
“You’re going to see a very natural and normal guy – someone who is comfortable with who he is, not someone who’s highly scripted or nervous”, Giuliani said.
Trump was set to deliver a major speech on illegal immigration last week, but his campaign chose to postpone the address as it continues to craft its policy and the language to deliver it.
“It would be too hard to send everybody back”, said Gale Livingston, a retired Ames resident who plans to vote for Trump in November.
The activities capped a week that saw some of the harshest exchanges between the two presidential rivals, with Clinton asserting in an MSNBC interview on Friday that Trump’s campaign was built on “prejudice and paranoia” and he had catered to a radical fringe of the Republican Party.
“He did simplify it”.
“I’m not going to get into that”, she said Friday evening.
If immigrants want to gain legal status, Conway said, they need to leave the USA, go home and reapply.
Speaking to an overwhelmingly white crowd, Trump again pledged that as president he would help African-Americans living in cities with high crime and low employment.
Tapper pressed Pence Sunday on whether the GOP ticket believes those children are citizens. Trump was there for Iowa freshman Sen.

“People think that they have to land zingers and pivot and attack – and that’s true, but ultimately, you want your viewers to come away with a gut feeling that I like this person”, said former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who co-chairs Clinton’s transition committee.
