It’s unlikely Clemson gets another blowout against Oklahoma, but it’s a safe bet that the Tigers will be prepared, motivated, and focused on getting their 14th win of the season, despite being short three players.

“They played a more physical way than we did”, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said.

For the second consecutive year, the Clemson Tigers (13-0) and Oklahoma Sooners (11-1) are meeting in a bowl game.

The top-ranked Tigers (13-0) were dealing with the suspension of three players for violating unspecified team rules as they prepared to face the No. 4 Sooners (11-1) in the national semifinal game.

“For some reason, we were the underdog in the playoffs”, receiver Charone Peake said.

Again, this is nothing that we really didn’t see coming.

Deshaun Watson is carrying the Tigers, rushing for 105 yards and throwing for 78 more so far.

Watson got off to a slow start passing, but came back to complete 16-of-31 for 187 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown to Hunter Renfrow that gave Clemson some breathing room late in the third quarter.

Some would say that like Alabama, Oklahoma hasn’t played a quarterback as good as the one they will on Thursday in Watson.

“We had something to do with that”, Swinney said. Yeah. There can be no other highlight of the game than this one. “This guy is special in every regard”.

He just sacked Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield on third down deep in Sooners territory, and then OU’s Austin Seibert shanked a punt to set Clemson up at the Oklahoma 28 for its second drive of the Orange Bowl. Through the air, Watson is 9-of-22 for 115 yards and a pick.

Clemson took the second-half kickoff and breezed down the field, covering 75 yards in 12 plays to reclaim the lead on Wayne Gallman’s 1-yard run, the first of his two TDs.

Greg Huegel’s 26-yard field goal with 3:50 left in the first quarter has cut Oklahoma’s lead to 7-3.

This wasn’t just a beating. No. 2 running back Joe Mixon appeared to be knocked unconscious and never returned.

“There was a team luncheon between Clemson and Oklahoma (on Wednesday), and the buses arrived at the same time, and I guess they didn’t have security”, Oklahoma radio analyst Dusty Dvoracek told The Morning Animals radio show.

The victory in the College Football Playoff semifinal enabled Clemson to advance to the CFP championship game on January 11 in Glendale, Az. against the victor of last night’s Cotton Bowl semifinal between No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Michigan State.

But no team has been to the Orange Bowl more than Oklahoma.

“We’re not anxious about who we play”, said linebacker Ben Boulware, named the defensive MVP.
