ESPN chose to honor Hill posthumously after showing courage to continue playing for the Mount St. Joseph’s women’s basketball team as she battled an inoperable brain tumor.

“We can’t save Lauren anymore because there wasn’t a drug or any good treatments but we can maybe someday save another family, another child from going through the same thing we did because it’s not acceptable”.
Lauren Hill raised more than a million dollars to fight pediatric cancer after the story of her drive to play just one game for the Mount Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball team spread nationwide. “Today was the best I’ve had, probably in my entire life”.
Even though the arguments were made in her daughter’s favor, Lauren’s Mom, Lisa, said she weren’t indicative of how her family felt. “But I know that that’s not what Lauren would have wanted”.
Jenner says she wants to use her powerful celebrity platform to help transgender people achieve acceptance and she urged the audience to learn about people different than themselves.
“Some people were really harsh”, Hill said. “I feel like that, ‘” Lisa Hill remembered. “That’s just not who she was”. “Some people were just malicious and rude and terrible, and that’s not what Lauren would have wanted”. “Lauren showed us through heart, determination, courage, strength and faith that, no matter what, it is possible to achieve your dreams”, she said. A producer for the program admitted that she and her staff, rather than any wider voting process, selected the former Olympian for the honor.
She also said that Lauren would take the opportunity to meet her sports idols.
Lauren’s siblings Nate and Erin stayed home in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, rather than attending the ESPYS.
Hill said she’s ready for any surprises that may come with the evening and that she is ready.
