Juncker’s keenly-awaited speech comes two days before the 27 European Union leaders meet without Britain in the Slovakian capital Bratislava, for a summit aimed at drawing up a roadmap for the future after the British vote to leave the bloc.

“Brexit was the most significant event that has ever happened in the European Union and we just carry on regardless with more centralising”.

Commission officials acknowledge that more ambitious plans to address key problems, such as the stability of the eurozone and coordination of national budgets, remain on hold until after next year’s elections due to a split between a German-led north keen on austerity and a southern bloc with heavier debts.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has previously said that she will not trigger Article 50 – the formal start of the process of leaving the European Union – before 2017.

He told me: “They have learned nothing”. “History will not remember us, but it will remember our mistakes”.

On the subject of Brexit, Mr Juncker urged Britain to begin withdrawal talks as soon as possible and reiterated the European Commission stance that there would be no “a la carte” deal.

“This is a negotiation”.

Benot Machuel, General Secretary of the International Federation of Musicians, said: “What we need is a right for all performers to be paid each time a performance is used online on iTunes, Netflix or Spotify”.

His proposal is a further example of the ways in which the European Union is looking to reshape itself after “Brexit”, the June vote in the United Kingdom to exit the EU.

Mr Juncker urged haste on that and reiterated the European Union position that Britain could not retain its full European Union market access if it blocks free immigration from the EU.

If your local park or library already offers a paid Wi-Fi service, then the European Union subsidy isn’t going to change anything Projects that compete with a similar, existing private or public Wi-Fi offering will not be funded, as WIFI4EU is meant to bring Internet access to previously unserved areas. Aides said she wanted to ensure Britain’s negotiating position was not undermined.

Dyson told the Daily Telegraph that European Union nations “are going to want to have a free trade deal with us more than the other way round”, because Europe exports more to Britain than it imports.

Fox was also recorded as saying Britain had become “too lazy and too fat” to seek new export markets; May’s spokeswoman responded that trade ties were important. “Then people would be convinced”, he said. “Is the Prime Minister in favour of protecting visa-free travel; yes or no?”

Noting that Barbados was a preferred destination for British travelers, as well as those seeking a second home overseas, Sinckler said the two countries also shared strong social and cultural ties and worked closely with each other in relation to national security issues. The focus will be on pooling military equipment and promoting defence research.
