Euro 2016: Harry Kane should be dropped for England, says Alan Shearer

Daniel Sturridge’s late England goal in the 2-1 defeat denied Wales the chance to seal a last 16 spot with a group game against Russian Federation still to play.

“It’s a game we don’t need to win but I think Sturridge and Vardy will play and that might mean he goes to a diamond in the way that he did in the second half against Wales, with Wayne Rooney just at the tip of it”, he said.

“There is always three games to play”.

This is not the end of Harry Kane’s tournament and he still has a big part to play at Euro 2016 but, after the impact Vardy and Sturridge made off the bench to help England beat Wales, I can’t see him starting our final game in Group B.

This Wales squad have had to endure some hard moments along the way to finally reaching a major tournament, and Ledley is confident those experiences will stand them in good stead with a place in the knock-out stage on the line.

“DOWN, but not out” is the message from the Welsh camp as they aim to take out their England frustrations on Russian Federation and seal a place in the Euro 2016 knockout stages.

Wales could even qualify if they are beaten by Russian Federation, but Chris Coleman’s side would then be relying on other results.

“The danger of this one being the middle one was everyone was looking at this – the Battle of Britain”.

We looked a bit nervous, didn’t get forward much, we were hanging on in that second half. “In the first half, we did okay but we had to move the ball quicker”, said the Manchester United star.

“It is incredible. We played so well against Russian Federation and conceded in the 93rd minute and today we worked so hard in the second half and pushed and pushed and then scored in the 92nd minute, I suppose it shows things do even out but it is rare to see them even out in the space of two games”.

Gareth Bale has taken to Twitter to react to Wales’ defeat to England on Thursday afternoon.

“Three games in 10 or 11 days is a tough ask, but we’re down to the last one and we have a chance”. We knew they were under pressure to get a result.

“I don’t think anyone targeted, it is just football; you go to hit people and it was an accident how Sturridge came in, I will come back stronger”. “To lose it like that was gut-wrenching for the players and our supporters”.
