Euro 2016: Vardy won’t start for England – Wenger

Arsenal activated Vardy’s release clause of £20m to open negotiations with the England striker and his representatives, but they failed to get a deal over the line before Vardy flew to France for the Euro 2016 Championship.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given his opinion on the England national team, claiming Gunners’ target Jamie Vardy will not start for the Three Lions.

Vardy’s future at the King Power Stadium appears uncertain after Arsenal lodged their interest in the striker, whose 24 goals fired the Foxes to the title last season.

“I’m shocked. I’m absolutely flabbergasted with it”, the 48-year-old told talkSPORT. He is ideal for them. “Arsenal don’t get the ball forward quickly enough”.

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased to see their most long-serving player is keen to remain at the club this summer, despite speculation suggesting otherwise. I’m not saying he won’t get goals but I don’t think he will get enough opportunities at Arsenal.

Kante could be in contention for a place in France’s first XI when they kick-off their Euro 2016 campaign against Romania on Friday, and the midfielder isn’t the only Leicester player looking to make a mark at his first worldwide tournament.

Merson is not convinced the Premier League Player of the Season would fit into the North London outfit’s style of play. However, the Hammers have been linked with a host of alternative centre-forwards in recent weeks, too.

“Twenty of his goals must have been over the top, balls that he is running on to, beat the goalie and great finish”. Teams kick-off against Arsenal and immediately put 10 behind the ball and they’ve got to try and break them down.

“I don’t think that Vardy will be a starter”, Wenger said on beIN Sports, according to The Independent.

“Look at Manchester United and other club sides that have had young squads and had a gelling period and been successful and I believe we can do that”.
