Europa League: Qarabag 0 Tottenham 1

The Portuguese manager wants to get Chelsea’s season back on track, as they are now 15th in the league and out of contention for the title.

He said: “We need more help from our country and the Premier League”.

They failed to win a single Premier League game against the Blues at White Hart Lane in 17 matches between 1989 and 2006.

“But then the owner of Southampton called me and said he wanted me to manage their team”.

MAURICIO Pochettino faces a selection headache as his high-flying Spurs welcome champions Chelsea to White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The club’s impressive start to the season has seen Spurs go unbeaten in the league since their opening day defeat to Manchester United, which keeps them in contention to qualify for the Champions League – and win the Premier League title. So if that wasn’t a problem for Chelsea, why is it a problem now for Tottenham?

Eric Dier believes Tottenham Hotspur have applied the lesson in ruthlessness they learned from Chelsea in last season’s Capital One Cup final.

Chelsea are hoping that John Terry will be fit for the match – more news to follow. It’s clear the Blues need reinforcements to make this team better, both in the winter window to finish out this season strong and in the summer to set up a good squad for next year.

Chelsea will be looking to capitalize on any chance they get so Tottenham will have to be careful and watch the players fatigue levels.

“But Harry, like Hugo Lloris, wants to stay here”. I know which players are possible.

“It is true we arrive maybe not in the best condition to compete in the right way but respect to our medical staff for what they do, they will work during the flight and tomorrow we have a day off. On Saturday, we will assess”.

Even Jose Mourinho has indicated that Spurs may not be catchable, only 13 games into the season, telling Sky Sports that Tottenham are title contenders and his side mere top-four hopefuls. Unlike Belgian centre-back Alderweireld, who found the net when Spurs beat West Ham 4-1 last week, the Spaniard has not scored against quality opposition so far.

Pochettino complained about the noon kick-off on Sunday, so soon after Tottenham’s 2,500-mile return from their Thursday night Europa League clash at Qarabag in Azerbaijan.
