Last week, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that it is investigating 14 possible cases of sexual transmission in the country, including two pregnant women whose infections have been confirmed.

The window for testing is short because the virus is only present in a person’s blood for a limited amount of time, she said.

All nine women experienced such symptoms of Zika as fever, rash, red eyes, or joint pain.

“People can reduce the spread of Aedes mosquitoes by eliminating sites around their homes where mosquitoes may breed by getting rid of containers and any other sites where water may collect and mosquitoes lay their eggs”, County officials said in a statement.

The woman received the virus from her partner who had recently returned from Brazil.

If a pregnant women decides to go to the Summer Olympics anyway, she should talk with her doctor before leaving, the CDC advised in the latest alert.

To be on the safe side, Leman said he recommends women returning from Zika-affected areas wait at least six weeks before becoming pregnant.

The researchers also discuss the knowledge gap in how the virus is transmitted.

At least one of two women who terminated their pregnancy did so after brain abnormalities were detected, CDC officials said Friday, while two other pregnancies ended spontaneously in the first trimester.

We have not had any evidence of Zika spreading in Arkansas.

The CDC also warned against the sexual transmission of Zika if a male partner is traveling to Brazil.

“Zika is guilty until proven innocent”, she said. Laboratory tests confirmed infections in another 1,612, and 6,630 were listed as suspected Zika infections.

Frieden admitted the CDC “did not anticipate that we would see this many sexually transmitted cases of Zika”. “For the USA, it really is the territory that is going to have the most infections, ” said Steve Waterman, head of the CDCs dengue branch in Puerto Rico.

The man diagnosed with Zika, Bernie Gribble, was staying at Rockhampton’s Globe Hotel, of which he is a part-owner, when he fell ill. The screens, one measure Brazilians are using to help ward off the mosquito that is the primary transmitter of Zika, will be installed in communal areas “where required” but only affixed to lodging if national delegations decide to pay for it, said Philip Wilkinson, a spokesman for the Rio 2016 organizing committee.

Much remains unknown about Zika, including whether the virus actually causes microcephaly in babies.
