Meanwhile Turkish media reported that the two officers who downed the Russian jet on the Syrian border in May were among the members of the coup attempt and that two helicopters and 25 anti-Erdogan soldiers who attacked the hotel in Marmaris where the president should hgave been staying have disappeared.

Reynders said: “We can not imagine that from a country that seeks to join the European Union”.
A senior Turkish official pushed back at the criticism.
“We have been looking into the activities of the Gulen Movement for some time. The cell within the military was part of this investigation”, the official said, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Mr Kerry said that no extradition request had been received and Washington would need first to see “evidence, not allegations”, of Mr Gulen’s responsibility.
