Evacuation remains in effect around Bear Creek wildfire near West Kelowna, BC
It’s one of two fires that started in the Okanagan on Sunday night – the other being north of West Kelowna, where over 150 properties have been placed under evacuation order.

Cooler weather helped stem the fire’s growth Monday and crews had the blaze 30 per cent contained by the afternoon, said fire information officer Melissa Klassen with the B.C. Wildfire Service.
In OK Falls, 25 firefighters are still battling the 16.3-hectare blaze, while at Jackpine Lake 23 crewmembers, and three pieces of heavy machinery, are dealing with 14 hectares of fire.
Early Monday morning, the Central Okanagan Regional District said no homes had been destroyed but “some outbuildings (sheds) may be damaged”.
The evacuation order for 51 properties along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads affected by the 52-hectare Bear Creek wildfire has been downgraded to an evacuation alert.
While residents remain out of the evacuation area, RCMP members were conducting security patrols and the Emergency Support Services Reception Centre in West Kelowna continued to operate.
The evacuation zone covered the provincial park campground, a subdivision and homes along Bear Creek Road.
Another Okanagan fire, at the south end of Skaha Lake, about 80 kilometres south of Kelowna, also caused concern late Sunday.
A ridge of high pressure is forecasted to build over the region starting today (Tuesday) and will bring hot and dry conditions.
