Evacuation warnings lowered for Eastern Oregon wildfire
The lands north and south of I-84 from the weigh station on Deadman Pass to Emigrant Springs State Park are now under a Level 2 (Get Set) evacuation notice. Though the fire never came too close to Meacham, Earle said they could see plenty of smoke hovering in the distance.

About 20 homes in eastern OR have been evacuated and officials on Sunday told residents in the nearby small town of Meacham to be ready to leave due to a wildfire. The Deadman Pass rest area is open for westbound travelers, but the eastbound rest area is closed until further notice.
According to the latest reports, the Weigh Station Fire, burning 13 miles southeast of Pendleton is at 500 acres.
The Rail Fire, depicted on this map by the dashed red line, was about 700 acres Monday morning 10 miles southwest of Unity. The blaze is now 25 percent contained.
Meacham has been removed from any evacuation notice. Residents seeking shelter can contact the American Red Cross at 888-680-1455. Weather conditions moderated some, providing firefighters the opportunity to work on strengthening fire lines.
“All these fires I just spoke about have been either determined to be human-caused or suspected to be human-caused”, Galloway said on Saturday, referring to people not putting out campfires, throwing lit cigarettes on the ground or doing anything to create sparks.
“We’re ready to stand down when we get the word”, Vaughn said.
A Type 3 Incident Command Team has taken over managing the fire. There are approximately 285 firefighters on scene, with fire camp established on private property at Poverty Flats.
As of 8 p.m., the effort consists of four fire engines, two hand crews and one dozer, with additional resources en route.
