Events mark Palm Sunday, Passover, Good Friday, Easter

Palm Sunday is set to fall on 9 April this year, and marks the moment when Jesus entered Jerusalem in triumph, riding on the back of a donkey – with Christians believing the scene took place before Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Easter Sunday, April 16: Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m., Resurrection Day worship at 8:30 and 11 a.m.; Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m.

First Presbyterian, 203 N. Spring St., Bellefonte – Maundy Thursday meal and Communion at Milesburg Presbyterian at 6:15 p.m./ Good Friday service 7 p.m. This will be a joint service with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church- held at First Church -featuring a joint choir and liturgy led by Fr. Derrick Fetz of St. Andrew’s and Rev.Dr. Jay Terbush of First Church. A Community Sunrise Worship at 7:30 a.m. April 16 at the Fleming Falls Retreat Center at Camp Mowana, 2276 Fleming Falls Road.

On Wednesday of Holy Week at 3:30 p.m. a service of Holy Communion will be offered in the Park Centre second floor dining room.

On this, the 40th Anniversary of the Easter Dawn Service, people will gather at 5:55 a.m.to celebrate the empty tomb and Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

The kinder-5th grade Sunday School and nursery for younger children begin after the children’s time about 10:15 a.m. or children are welcome to stay in the sanctuary or chapel with their families. Elder Kim Green will develop the weekly World Church theme along with Elder Carol McGraw presenting the musical selections and Seventy Justin Delong leading the youth during Children’s Church which will participate in the Morning Worship service with a Palm Sunday Focus Moment. A time of coffee fellowship and Christian education for all ages follows. First Congregational Church is the next stop.

United Minstry of Delhi, 6 p.m., service.

8 a.m., worship including communion and special breads, followed by 10 a.m. breakfast buffet.

Good Friday, April 14th will find the church Sanctuary open for prayer and meditation in the morning until noon. The service is followed by hot coffee indoors and all are welcome.

The Rev. Jack Kemper, pastor of First United Methodist Church, said many churches use the term Maundy Thursday. Our Baileys Harbor churches have a number of services scheduled. No service at 9:30 a.m.

St. Paul Lutheran, Mill Hall – Good Friday service 3 p.m.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 125 Main St., 7:30 a.m. worship.

Norm Beetler (retired) will speak at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

Palm Sunday is on April 9 this year with Good Friday on April 14 and Easter Sunday following on April 16. There will be two worship services – the Celebration Service at 9 a.m. and a Traditional Service at 11 a.m.
