Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Alli cancels out Lennon opener

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were the dominant force in the first half but were shocked when Aaron Lennon drilled home the opening goal with Everton’s first effort of the game.

Roberto Martinez can certainly take positives from his Everton side’s first-half goal and second-half performance, but once again this was a home match in which the Toffees ultimately failed to really fire, and one win in seven Premier League matches is hardly an encouraging statistic.

Everton looked the more likely to find a victor but Spurs held out for a deserved point to extend their good record against the Merseyside club.

“The first half was one of the best halves of the season for us”, Alderweireld said.

Everton had to be content with a point from a game that featured two first-half goals but which saved most of its excitement for the closing stages.
