Stones has made 46 Premier League appearances since moving to Merseyside from Oakwell in 2013-14.

The signing of Mori, 24, for whom a piece allow has been obtained, could possibly be interpreted as an try and safe a alternative for Stones earlier than his departure.

Martinez, though, says that is not the case, adding that a deal would not happen because it is too close to the transfer deadline for Everton to lose such an important player.

He said: “I think the latest situation is the same”.

Amid the varying views on what is best for the young defender and where his immediate future should lie, there is one person maintaining the level-headedness lacking elsewhere.

“‘There are some aspects in my game where I have the potential”, Romelu Lukaku said.

Everton may not be letting a defender go but they will bring one in within the next 48 hours. That is just a general rule in the transfer market.

Yesterday, the Sun reported that Stones would submit a transfer request to Everton after growing frustration with the club’s management refusal to sell him.

When you go to Chelsea at a young age it’s up to you if you want to survive.

Stones has been the subject of interest from Chelsea throughout the summer, despite Everton rejecting three big-money bids and repeatedly saying the defender is not for sale.

When asked at his pre-match conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City whether he understood that to be the case, the Everton manager replied: “Not at all, no”.

“But we’ll learn from it. He’s (Stones) in a good situation”. “I have that but it has to come out”.
