Leighton Baines will step up his comeback from injury with a behind closed doors friendly next week.

Baines missed the end of last season to have surgery on his ankle, but aggravated the problem in a freak preseason training ground accident.

Left-back Leighton Baines has not featured for Everton this season because of an ankle injury, but appears to be nearing a return with Martinez confirming he will take part in a friendly behind closed doors during the worldwide break.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Martinez revealed, “We have a got a game that will be behind closed doors in the worldwide break and Leighton will be playing a part in that”. It’s now about making sure we measure their recoveries well and don’t rush them back into action. “Medically, he’s in a great condition”.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is confident Bryan Oviedo’s latest injury will not keep the Costa Rican out for too long. “If not, the Bournemouth game”.
