Everyone can help support a mother breastfeeding during Work World
To help educate patients, the community and employees about breastfeeding best practices, Montefiore Health Systemwill launch a week-long program in recognition of World Breastfeeding Week 2015, which will begin on Monday, August 3. Formula-fed babies have a higher risk of ear and respiratory infections, intestinal problems, allergies, eczema, childhood leukemia, obesity, and diabetes. We thought about all the other moms in other states, with less supportive employers and challenged ourselves to find a way to make it easier for mamas to meet their breastfeeding goals, and employers and communities to support them.

Despite this growing evidence, only 38 per cent of infants around the world today are breastfed exclusively for even the recommended first six months of life.
“There are numerous health benefits”, said Katie Constantino, breastfeeding coordinator for Catholic Charities WIC, about the advantages of breastfeeding for babies.
But we should also do more to overcome an obstacle that prevents potentially millions of women from breastfeeding: Workplace policies that do not support the right of working mothers to breastfeed their babies on the job.
At the function Ms. Parukutty inaugurated a special private room at the hospital where mothers coming there can breastfeed their child.
This year’s theme centres on women feeling comfortable to breastfeed anytime and anywhere, whether at work or in public. “Join us in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week”. Globally, 67 countries have ratified at least one of the three maternity protection Conventions. Passage of SB 219 would encourage working mothers to breastfeed their children. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, and Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, are working on legislation to protect pregnant women and nursing mothers in the work place.
“We welcome the Government of China’s leadership and commitment to create a culture of breastfeeding from birth in hospitals, at home and in public and work spaces. The bill also prohibits employers from denying employment opportunities to women based on their need for reasonable accommodations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions”. Breastfed children fall sick less often, so their mothers are absent from work less often, too. Together, we can help working women to breastfeed and reap the benefits for themselves, for their children, and for the health and well-being of future generations.

“It has come to light that in recent months a number of mothers have been asked to leave public areas in our community because they were breastfeeding their baby”, says Melinda Bruno, a public health nurse.
