Evian Championship: Big Names Well Off the Pace After Day 2

Park co-led this summer’s U.S. Open through 54 holes before falling back to a tie for third, and she could benefit from her first jump into the deep end this time around.

Park (68) and China’s Feng Shanshan (67), the Olympic bronze medallist, shared second place on 131 with another Korean, Ryu So Yeon (66).

New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, the world number one and defending champion, was not at her best, but managed to scramble her way to a 70 and is certainly not out of touch.

Two-time major victor Britanny Lincicome matched Chun’s best-of-the-day 66 in a mixed round of nine birdies and four bogeys.

It did not show in the world No.7 play, however, as she hit every fairway in regulation and after a slow start off the 10th tee she carded six birdies on her second nine to record eight in all in her bogey-free round.

ELVERSON, Pa. (AP) – Stewart Hagestad rallied to win U.S. Mid-Amateur title, overcoming a late four-hole deficit and beating Scott Harvey with a 15-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole.

For Ko, who set one of her myriad “youngest ever” records when she became the youngest victor of a women’s major at the Evian in 2015, there’s more on the line than a title defense.

There are only four players that still have a chance to win the Rolex Annika Major Award, which recognizes the player with the best performance in the majors.

South Korea’s Chun In-gee took firm control of the Evian Championship and set her sights on the record books after a third-round six-under-par 65 on Saturday (Sep 17).

US Open champion Brittany Lang was one of the big names to miss the cut, along with Laura Davies, Juli Inkster, Christina Kim and Karrie Webb.

“I tried to hit driver on Monday, but I’m not really comfortable because this course is really narrow”, she said.

The New Zealander lifted her spirits with birdies at seven and nine, but she gave both shots back on the inward half and limped in with a 75 which left her 19 shots behind the leader. She finished with a 73, four behind her older sister, Moriya.

Sweden’s Robert Karlsson and Spain’s Adrian Otaegui shot 64.

At Monza, Italy, England’s Chris Paisley topped the Italian Open leaderboard at 10 under after 13 holes when play was suspended for the day because of thunderstorms. He’s one shot ahead of Masters champion and fellow Englishman Danny Willett.
