Ex 49er was in sandwich fight before later assault arrest

An hour after issuing a statement saying they were “gathering relevant facts”, the 49ers issued another statement: “The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have released Bruce Miller”.

Miller, 29, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, elder abuse, threats and battery and booked into the San Francisco County Jail.

Then, about 2:45 a.m., San Francisco police Grace Gatapandan said a drunk Miller went to the Fisherman’s Wharf Marriott on Columbus Avenue and tried getting into a hotel room that wasn’t his.

Hours before he was arrested for assault, a manager at a San Francisco restaurant says he had to boot former 49er Bruce Miller after the player got in a fight over a sandwich.

A 70-year-old man opened the door and told Miller he was in the wrong room, Gatapandan said.

The 70-year-old father came to help his son, but Miller punched him in the face. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries.

The 49ers initially responded with a statement that read: “The 49ers organization is aware of the media report regarding Bruce Miller”.

KTVU-TV first reported the arrest.

This is the second time Miller had a run-in with the law. Miller allegedly threw the woman’s cellphone and smashed it during an argument at a Santa Clara hotel. He was later moved to the position of tight end courtesy of new coach Chip Kelly. Miller was arrested back in 2015 and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace in connection with a March incident involving his ex-fiancé. He attended a 16-week domestic violence counseling course.

Redmond was drafted in the third round out of Mississippi State despite tearing his ACL in practice in October.

Earlier Monday, the 49ers signed running back DuJuan Harris to a one-year contract and placed cornerback Will Redmond on injured reserve. He played in the final two exhibition games this summer.

The Niners also claimed defensive tackle Taylor Hart off waivers from Philadelphia and waived safety L.J. McCray.
