Orange Police Department officers received a 911 call from a neighbor who reported finding the bodies inside the home, owned by Robby Gordon, in the 1400 block of N. Kennymead Street around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Gordon spoke briefly to reporters Thursday near the gated house where police discovered the bodies of 68-year-old Robert Gordon and 57-year-old Sharon Gordon.
Robby Gordon, 47, said he would speak about the deaths in more detail once authorities conclude their investigation.
Robby’s father Robert (Bob) was a well-known and successful racer in his own right- you don’t earn a nickname like “Baja Bob” without putting some numbers on the scoreboard. No outside suspects are believed to be involved in the deaths.
Robby Gordon said his father instilled in him a passion for motorsports and competition. Neighbor Greg Saunders said everyone in the area knew the family.
Tragedy has struck the family of Robby Gordon.
“I want to thank all our friends in the racing community, not only the auto racing community but the horse racing community for their incredible outpouring of support and prayers”. And there will be… the truth will come out, what went down there.
NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was among those offering condolences, writing on his Twitter account he is praying for “the Gordon family during this hard time”.
CHICAGO (AP) – Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson remembers vividly the first time he rode in an off-road desert vehicle with “Baja Bob” Gordon about 25 years ago.
Gordon said his planned Robby Gordon Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks racing event will go on as planned this weekend as part of the Sand Sports Super Show at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The driver was also known for making 396 NASCAR Premier Series starts for 19 seasons.
Longtime NASCAR driver Robby Gordon’s father and his stepmom were found dead Wednesday in their home in Orange, California, PEOPLE confirms – though it’s unclear how they died. He was a full-time driver early last decade and finished a career-high 16th in the points standings in 2003 driving for Richard Childress Racing.
Johnson posted on Twitter an image of himself with Bob Gordon at a Sprint Cup race.
Gordon is one of only four drivers to compete in the Indy 500 and NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. He almost won the 1999 Indy 500 before running out of fuel in the closing laps. His wife, Sharon, was the stepmother of the NASCAR driver.

The elder Gordon also had three daughters, one of whom, Beccy, had just had a baby boy with her husband, 2014 Indianapolis 500 victor Ryan Hunter-Reay.
