At a press conference on Monday, police said the deaths were related to a break-up between two of the victims, WHAM reports.

Although Geneseo, with a population of less than 8,000, has not had a homicide in decades, police have said that this was an isolated incident and that the public’s safety is not in danger. Kingston and Annese previously dated for three years.
Police say there were no visible signs of a struggle and Hutchinson, a hockey player at the university who had also played with the Chilliwack Chiefs, and Annese may have been killed in their sleep.
Hutchinson was one of three people found dead in an apartment in NY state over the weekend.
There was a knife located at the scene, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and police said that there were no guns or firearms involved.

Hutchinson joined the Geneseo Fire Department in 2012.
Hutchinson took up hockey at age 9 and played defense for the Geneseo Knights, according to his athlete bio.

An obviously shaken SUNY Geneseo President Denise Battles, who just assumed the presidency past year, said the deaths are “heartbreaking” and said it is a “profoundly sad day”.
Battles said Tuesday’s men’s and women’s basketball games will be postponed and there will be a Wednesday evening remembrance in the school’s gymnasium. “I think it hits those of us in another generation hard, thinking that someday you could get that call yourself”. Annese was a member of the women’s basketball team at Geneseo. They told police they didn’t hear anything unusual. Annese’s basketball team played a game in Buffalo the afternoon before her murder. That’s how coach says the team will remember her.
“She was an extremely hard-working, dedicated and a sweet girl that could put a smile on anyone’s face”, Houppert said. Hutchinson wrote an online commentary for the college about his desire to be a full-time firefighter, including a photo of him dressed in firefighting gear. He said the nature of Hutchinson and Annese’s relationship isn’t clear. There’s a lot that’s being said and a lot of silence at this point.
Hutchinson was on the top defensive pairing for the Geneseo men’s hockey team.
