Ex-foe Trout says only way Canelo beats Khan is by KO

“Come Saturday, I’m excited to yell, ‘Viva Mexico!'”, Canelo said.

Canelo Alvarez attends a news conference at the MGM Grand, Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in Las Vegas. The pro-Canelo people say he’s only 25, the con-Canelo guys say he’s been fighting 11 years and has nearly 50 pro fights. With him waiting in the wings, it can’t be easy for Alvarez to focus only on Khan.

Hopkins added “You’re not going to die, you didn’t get hurt, but you’ve got so many bee stings you don’t know where to scratch”.

A showdown with the fearsome Triple G awaits, though possibly not as soon as Golovkin wants.

“Khan has been doing a lot of weights to bulk up but that is not going to help his speed which he needs against Canelo”.

“Oscar was leading slightly on the scorecards because of speed”, said Hopkins, 51. “But let’s not forget about the courage he shows every time he’s been down he’s gotten up”. Be prepared to pull a late one in order to watch this fight – the last thing you want to do is have one too many beers beforehand and fall asleep while it’s on. Seeing him fight opponents like the one he fought two weeks ago (he knocked out Dominic Wade in the second round), it doesn’t sound right for him to say I’m avoiding him after taking that fight. He said he would be surprised if Khan tried to trade big punches.

As always in fight week, the strip in Las Vegas is buzzing with excitement. Cotto was 35 when Canelo fought him, and giving up 10 to 15 pounds of weight. Still, it’s a stretch for Khan, who fought his last three fights at the 147-pound welterweight limit, and before that spent most of his career at 140 pounds.

Alvarez holds the WBC middleweight title, even though he’s never fought at 160 pounds.

The Golden Boy Promotions boss believes the Bolton ace is a genuine threat to middleweight world champion Canelo and thinks those with knowledge of the fight game would not be surprised should he prevail against the odds.

“The second time was when I lost to (Lamont) Peterson and Garcia, back-to-back, and now I’m back here, fighting in one of the biggest fights this year, and also against one of the best fighters out there”.

This is the “Cinco de Mayo” – the Mexican holiday weekend – a boxing pay-per-view date that Floyd Mayweather Jnr once ruled over. Who will win the fight?

Alvarez was also recorded at 155lbs outside Las Vegas’ new T-Mobile Arena, the venue for Khan’s first world title fight since he was stopped by Danny Garcia nearly four years ago.
