Former heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno’s hopes of returning to the ring have been dashed after he was told his application for a licence would be declined.

There is, as of yet, no clarification from the British Boxing Board of Control as to whether or not Bruno would be allowed to fight, but he would need to pass a number of physical and medical tests to do so. But Frank made it clear that he is not only back in the gym, he is planning on getting back into boxing too.

Schofield asked, “Is that a good idea?”

“I’m walking around break-dancing I’ve got so much energy”.

The former heavyweight champion revealed in an appearance on This Morning that he would be heading back into the ring.

Bruno, 54 – who beat Oliver McCall at Wembley to claim the WBC heavyweight title more than 20 years ago – made the claim during an interview with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning.

Having been sectioned, diagnosed with bipolar and prescribed a mass of prescription drugs in the past, Bruno has been training in the gym every day in order to be considered for another bout in the top division.

“I can’t sit down and let these so-called promoters say Anthony Joshua can knock me out in two rounds when I’m not even dead”.

TV presenter Paddy McGuinness posted on Twitter: “Back in the day me & my Dad watched all Frank Bruno’s fights, we loved him”.
