Five-star Class of 2016 prospect Tyus Battle, a ex- Michigan commit, has verbally pledged to Syracuse.

The 2016 guard had originally committed to Michigan in May, but decommitted in June and immediately took an official visit to Syracuse.

Battle, a rising senior out of Gill St. Bernard’s School in New Jersey, chose Syracuse over offers from almost every major program in the country.

Battle is a 6-foot-6 guard from Edison, N.J. He averaged 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as a sophomore.

Maybe Battle just ends up being a singular event, but this commitment shows that it looks like Syracuse is in good hands and could be in a solid place going forward, even with the sanctions acting as a stumbling block.

But all hope isn’t lost for coach John Beilein – UM also is on the radar for another top-10 prospect.

Tyus Battle’s recruitment has come to a close for the second time. “He’s a great guy who will be a terrific head coach”. An improper benefits and academic scandal left the Orange with 12 fewer scholarships over the next four seasons and called Boeheim’s job security into question. Syracuse accomplished the first by adding Providence transfer Paschal Chukwu, who will sit out the upcoming season, and now the Orange have landed their primary guard target in Battle.

Gary Battle said Syracuse would be his son’s college destination.
