Eddie, who was introduced to the band by Phil, said that his friend had “one hell of a character”. Rest in Peace, Phil!’
Nearly as well known for his classically rock star-like behavior as for his drumming, Taylor was arrested or seriously injured on numerous occasions during his time with Motörhead.
The musician known as Philthy Animal had two stints with the British metal band, first in 1975-1984, then in 1987-1992. He called the interim period “a holiday”.
He last performed with Lemmy and company past year, when he joined the band for a rendition of “Ace of Spades” at a show in Birmingham, England.
Fans have been taking to Twitter this afternoon to share their condolences.
Motörhead tour the United Kingdom in January 2016, starting in Newcastle and ending in London, in support of new album “Bad Magic”, released in August.
Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor, the former drummer for Motörhead, has died at the age of 61.
A different Twitter user shared: “R.I.P. To one of the greatest drummers in rock and roll, Phil Taylor”.
