Ex-Newcastle United Star Warns Rafael Benitez Over Managing In Championship
STEVE McClaren has been sacked as Newcastle United manager, a club statement has confirmed.

Fired as Real Madrid coach in January, Benitez was presented as the new manager on Saturday and said it was “normal” to have the break clause in his deal. And if Benitez has success against the league leaders in his first match at the helm of one of the most defeated clubs in the Premier League today, it could become a quick rise to the top for a club in desperate need of some hope. “If we do well I can stay here for a while”.
“For this reason, we are fighting because anything could happen…”
“It will be a challenge not just for me and my staff, but for the players, the club and the fans”.
“He has managed some of the most successful teams at the very highest level of the game and we are proud to now have him as our manager”. “You may not see it tomorrow night [against Leicester] as he’s only had a couple days training but as the weeks go on I think you’ll see a lot more defensive organisation from Newcastle”.
Newcastle are Benitez’s third club in England, having spent six years as Liverpool manager and a tempestuous six months as interim manager at Chelsea. I said before, we have enough quality in the squad.
“You can smell football here, so it’s important to have the support of everyone and we will do our best and try to win from the first game”. There is a good player in there somewhere. You don’t want to make a mistake to lose a trophy, you don’t want to make a mistake to be relegated.
And Howey, who feels Newcastle could also follow in the footsteps of Sunderland, however, insisted that managing the St James’ Park outfit will be a different kind of assignment for the former Real Madrid and Liverpool boss Benitez.
But in the few instances when I’ve had to form an opinion on a football match in such circumstances I’ve preferred just to judge it for what it is.
Manuel Pellegrini urged his Manchester City players to re-focus on the Champions League following their disappointing 0-0 draw against Premier League strugglers Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini is a doubt with a calf injury, while goalkeeper Tim Krul, defenders Chancel Mbemba, Massadio Haidara and Kevin Mbabu and winger Gabriel Obertan remain sidelined. This team is poor and although there are changes happening at the club, I don’t see a situation where they avoid relegation.
