Ex-Rep. McMahon wins New York prosecutor race after chokehold case
A longtime politician and a veteran prosecutor are vying to succeed a New York City district attorney who handled the investigation into the police chokehold death of Eric Garner.

Republican Joan Illuzzi (ill-OOH’-zee) and Democrat Michael McMahon are running in Tuesday’s election on Staten Island. Her Democratic rival, and former city councilman and congressman, Michael McMahon won with about 55 percent of the vote. According to cable news station NY1, Democrat Darcel Clark, a Supreme Court justice who once worked in the DA’s office, won 85 percent-15 percent with 78 percent of districts counted over Republican Robert Siano, a lawyer in private practice.
It’s the first time in more than a quarter century the Bronx will have a new district attorney.
Queens and Brooklyn have elections for State Assembly.
The highest-profile race has been a spirited contest for District Attorney on Staten Island.
Christie M Farriella/for New York Daily News Richard Brown won an unopposed bid to be re-elected as Queens DA.
In Brooklyn, there’s also a race for the State Senate.

Assemblyman Joseph Borelli, the lone conservative victor in the city, will represent the south shore of Staten Island in the 51st City Council district.
