As Carson announced his endorsement, he skirted his history with Trump, who during the campaign said Carson had been a “pathological” liar and who suggested this problem was as incurable as pedophilia.
Typically, though, Carson’s endorsement was somewhat convoluted: “There are two different Donald Trumps”.
Carson said he had “come to know” Trump.
Speaking at a Palm Beach press conference on Friday, Trump said the “audience swung back” at a white man who was caught on video hitting a black man as he was escorted out of a Trump rally by deputies.
Last year, when Carson ascended to near the top of some Republican polls, Trump attacked him vehemently – but the two men said they resolved their issues during talks in recent days. There’s the one you see on the stage and there’s the one who’s very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully and you can have a very good conversation with him. There’s two different Donald Trumps. I think – Ben said it very well today. “That happens in American politics”.
Carson cautioned that it is “extremely dangerous” when political parties attempt to “thwart the will of the people”, and encouraged politicians to “strengthen the nation”, rather than create divisions within the GOP.
Trump said Carson would help him with education and health care and hinted that Carson would potentially have a place in a Trump administration.
“We move on”, he added.
He has been appealing to Republican grandees, who remain wary that he could lead the party into oblivion in November’s election, to unite behind him.
“Some people have gotten the impression that Donald Trump is this person who is not malleable, who does not have the ability to listen, and to take information in and make wise decisions”.
In his introduction to Carson Friday, Trump described the retired neurosurgeon as a “special, special person – special man”, and a “friend” who is respected by everyone.
Trump was heading to St. Louis and Chicago after appearing with Carson; John Kasich headed for his must-win home state of Ohio; Rubio made his home-stand in Florida and Cruz was shuttling from Florida to IL. “It’s such an honor to have Ben”, Trump said, the Guardian reported.

Trump’s rivals, in a desperate scramble to halt his march to the nomination, gradually ramped up their criticism as the latest debate wore on.
