Rantala spent 17 years in Nokia´s mobile phone business, serving across sales, marketing and operations roles, most recently as senior vice president for global marketing. That’s the bet that Finnish startup HMD is making with its 10-year deal to produce Nokia phones and tablets in cooperation with phone manufacturer Foxconn. Let us remind you that HMD is the same company which amalgamated with Nokia to recreate the magic for Nokia phones in the market. HMD has $500 million to spend on making its presence felt. His first priority is to recruit a world class team of marketers, brand specialists, and communicators to engage global mobile phone users. Although there are rumors regarding two devices which will have the Nokia Brand on the case but will be developed by HMD GLobal. HMD said it will announce its plan and product roadmap in due course of time.
The deal with Microsoft, which owns the Nokia consumer devices brand, also includes cellular standard essential patent licenses. But people are anxious whether the brand Nokia will be kept intact as the company has undergone a total overhaul.
“There are very few opportunities like this, to work with a global brand with the power to touch hundreds of millions of people every day”, Rantala said in the statement.
