“Because of the Arab Spring, because of a lot of other things, there was turmoil to be followed, but unless you believe the United States should not send diplomats to any place that is unsafe, which I do not, then when we send them forth, there is always the potential for danger and risk”, Clinton said.

After his remark, Clinton and Sanders shook hands on stage.

The effort to obtain more of Clinton’s emails, which could provide more answers, was stalled when it was revealed that Clinton had used a private email server while she was secretary of state and that she had deleted thousands of emails deemed “personal” and not “work-related”.

The charges and countercharges among Republicans emerged ahead of Clinton’s scheduled appearance before the Benghazi panel on October 22 and amid fierce partisan fighting about the true nature of the investigation.

“Big surprise. I’m still standing”, she said, garnering a round of applause. The attacks killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

When questioned about the accusations that the House Select Committee on Benghazi has become too focused on Clinton for political reasons, Patricia Smith (mother of Sean Smith) responded, “First of all, it is about Hillary”.

“On September 11th, in his mediation filing, this staffer specifically claimed his reserve status as a basis for his termination”, Gowdy said.

“We did not put one single American soldier on the ground in Libya”, Clinton said of the conflict. The committee, headed by South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, is charged with finding out exactly what happened that night and what, if anything, could have been done to prevent it. Gowdy, in a statement Sunday, denied that military service had anything to do with the dismissal and said Podliska’s “reserve duty was approved both times it was requested”. Gowdy rejected that characterization.
