Ex-Subway Spokesman Jared Fogle Sentenced To More Than 15 Years

Fogle, 38, pled guilty in August to possession and distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines for commercial sex with a minor. U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced Fogle to 188 months on each count, to be served concurrently – which adds up to a little more than 15 1/2 years.

“I want to redeem my life”, Fogle, his voice cracking with emotion as he wiped his eyes, told an Indianapolis courtroom during his sentencing.

Fogle said he takes “full, ample responsibility for what I’ve done” and wants “to become a good decent person and a good father, and to help others”. Fogle had paid a girl, 17 at the time, for sex multiple times, and the victim said Fogle had sex with another girl, 16 years old at the time, on a separate occasion.

In one exchange, Fogle offered to pay $300 for a 15-year-old who could prove her age, prosecutors said: “It’s what I crave”, he wrote.

“Not a day will go by when I don’t think about what I did to (the victims)”, indystar.com reported Fogle said as he sobbed Thursday.

The Business Insider says that Fogle’s lawyers claim that he became hypersexual after his extreme Subway weight loss.

If Fogle wished to file an appeal on his sentence, the appeal would have to be filed in the next two weeks. He’ll reportedly serve a minimum of 13 years before he’s eligible for parole.

Bradford said Fogle seemingly had a compulsive eating disorder that his hypersexuality seemed to develop briefly after he lose the extra pounds, and before he lost all of the weight that to him becoming the face of Subway.

He also agreed pay his 14 victims $100,000 each in restitution.

Bradford said Fogle suffered from “mild pedophilia”, CBS affiliate WTTV reports, which the prosecution argued is not an accepted diagnosis in the scientific community.

“Obviously, I am extremely shocked and disappointed by the recent developments involving Jared”, she said in the statement released through Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP.

Authorities searched Fogle’s IN home IN July, two months after the executive director of his foundation, which ran programs to raise awareness of childhood obesity, was arrested on federal child pornography charges.

He also said Fogle told him he had fantasies about pre-pubescent girls but there was no evidence he “actually engaged in sex” with such children. It was a point that Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve DeBrota hammered on, saying there is no clinical diagnosis for “weak” pedophilia – it’s either there or it isn’t.

Jared Fogle admitted that his life devolved into “deception, lies and self-destruction” that was in part fueled by his dependence on alcohol, pornography and prostitutes.
