According to sources, Hoke did have some other good coaching opportunities this winter before accepting the OR job.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Coach Hoke to the OR family”, Helfrich said Saturday.

Hoke went 31-20 in four seasons with the Wolverines from 2011 to 2014, including a victory in the 2012 Sugar Bowl.

Hoke was out of coaching last season after being fired by the Wolverines.

The former Michigan, San Diego State and Ball State head man has never been a college defensive coordinator.

Hoke will take over for recently demoted OR defensive coordinator Don Pellum.

The Ducks ranked last in total defense in the Pac-12 in 2015, allowing 485 yards per game.

He was a defensive assistant coach for MI from 1995-2002, including the Wolverines’ 1997 national championship winning team.

The Ducks also allowed a whopping 37.5 points per game, which ranked No. 116 overall.
