Despite his injury, Pierre-Paul remains defiant of the notion he can’t play up to his usual standards.

Jason Pierre-Paul has kept out of the public eye since he lost his right index finger in a July 4 fireworks accident, but his injured hand has been spotted for the first time. They aren’t particularly pretty, as you might imagine.
Once the Giants also feel that Pierre-Paul’s ready to play, that should set the stage for the defensive end to sign his one-year franchise tender.
The two-time Pro Bowler missed all of training camp after the Fourth of July fireworks accident. Sources have told ESPN that that was the last of many procedures Pierre-Paul has had to fix damage to the skin and bones of his thumb and fingers and that he’s focused now on rehab.
“He’s missing the tip of his thumb”.
In previous photos, Pierre-Paul was wearing a bandage that made it hard to determine the extent of the damage.
Pierre-Paul has been training near his Florida home with defensive line coach John Blake, working on pass-rush technique as he improves his strength and rehabs the hand following two months’ worth of surgical procedures.
On Thursday morning, he tweeted, “I can’t think of the last time my index finger got me a sack.”

While Pierre-Paul confidently talks about a return this season, the Giants aren’t so sure. Now, after a photo of his hand has surfaced, it’s easy to see why.
