Moreover, the report reveals that during the 2015-2050 period, half of the worlds population growth is expected to be concentrated in nine countries: India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the United States, Indonesia and Uganda.

By 2050, India will surpass China to become the largest country and Nigeria will surpass the United States to become No. 3.

“The large number of young people in Africa who will reach adulthood in the coming years and have children of their own, ensures that the region will play a central role in shaping the size and distribution of the world’s population over the coming decades”.

China now has a population of 1.38 billion, compared to India’s 1.31 billion, but India is expected to reach 1.4 billion by 2022, 1.5 billion by 2030 and 1.7 billion by 2050. He has predicted that the population is “tripling” and in 60 years time the world population could stand at around 40 billion people. World Bank maintains that a “natural population increase” occurs when birth rates are higher than deaths rates.

In order to keep up with the huge population growth, India will have to create more opportunities for jobs, curb gender inequality, and promote education.

The UN report, the 2015 Revision of World Population Prospects said that the demographic changes will present world leaders with major challenges.

Figures for both countries are expected to swell to around 1.4 billion by 2022, at which point India’s population is likely to expand beyond China’s.

According to the Daily Mail, John Wilmoth, director of the population division in the U.N.’s department of economic and social affairs, said that high fertility in some of world’s poorest countries could bring overarching problems with it.

On the other hand, the populations of 48 countries/areas are anticipated to decline between 2015 and 2050.

“Ten years ago, world population was growing by 1.24% per year”.

But Africa will not be the only one growing. A woman in Africa has an average of over four children.

“For the world as a whole, fertility has fallen steadily since the 1960s”. By 2100 there will be 82.3 million living in Britain.

The number of people living in 28 African countries is also expected to double, and by 2100 several countries will see a fivefold increase in their population.

Chinese fertility rates are slowing, and new data released this week indicates India’s population will overtake China’s by 2022.
