“We have identified and allocated dollars to cover everything from helping with water and water infrastructure [in Flint], to food and nutrition, to health and educational needs, to help with water bill and then a large reserve fund in terms of structure … so that’s a significant investment. Democrats have pressured Snyder to release emails from before 2014 because state-appointed emergency managers were involved in Flint’s switch from Detroit’s water system to the Flint River.

Wainwright said the water has affected almost all aspects of his family members’ lives.

Republicans were quick to say that it’s not an investigation and that the panel will not have subpoena power.

“I think once these individuals have been lied to as many times as I have, they’re going to want (subpoena power), and I’m going to have it ready for them”, he said.

So far, that group has provided more than 800 gallons of bottled water. State environmental protection officials failed to ensure proper corrosion control treatments were added to the harsh water, which leached lead from aging pipes into homes. The latest crisis in addition to the water causing lead-based consequences is also a possible cause of an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Flint that has killed 10 people and affected another 77.

The House is expected to approve the Senate-passed water bill assistance Thursday after a committee OK’d it Wednesday. With the Senate’s approval, Gov. Rick Snyder, who first pushed for this measure, gave his final approval.

Carrie Metz-Caporusso decided she wanted to use her skills working at the Lucky Monkey tattoo parlor in Ann Arbor to help support residents in Flint, about an hour away, who’ve been struck with a major water crisis, so she chose to hold a fundraiser with an ink twist. Kaufman’s team analyzed Flint’s handwritten records, paper maps, and scanned images to create a digital database of lead pipes. Businesses would be eligible for credit of 20% of the water portion of their bills.
