But a Cascade Gas employee, who had been working on the gas pipe, suffered second and third-degree burns in the explosion, police said. He was airlifted to a hospital. Motel workers and patrons were able to evacuate just prior to the blast, which happened at 8:24 p.m., authorities say.”The shaking was bad enough that the neighbors thought a tree fell on their house”, said Alice Adams, who lives three blocks away.

The blast was so powerful that it shook the earth and blew out windows in surrounding homes and buildings.

“We’re certainly hoping and praying that everybody did get evacuated successfully, but we can’t confirm for sure yet that that occurred”, Strachan said earlier.

No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters and the gas company arrived to check for a gas leak. My room, that end of the building, is gone.

Neighbors in Bremerton, which is located west of Seattle, across Puget Sound, felt the blast as well. There were reports of people in Port Orchard feeling the explosion. Meanwhile, police are tracking down leads on those three people – working to see if they might be somewhere else.
