There have been no claims of responsibility for the suicide bombings, but analysts suspect ISIS involvement in these coordinated attacks.
This was the third attack in Saudi Arabia. “Now the next US administration will find itself facing a new balance of power in Israel, between the most right-wing government in decades and the traditionally more moderate security establishment – one in which the extremists, at least for the moment, have triumphed”. He lived in Jeddah with his wife and one of her parents. There were no injuries.
In a show of solidarity, sSkyscrapers in major Gulf cities-including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building-were lit up in green, the color of the Saudi flag, on Monday night.
The suicide bomber who blew himself up near the United States consulate in Jeddah yesterday, has been identified as a Pakistani citizen.
IS has also claimed, or been blamed for, a series of deadly attacks in the predominantly Muslim countries of Turkey, Bangladesh and Iraq during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a message to the people of Saudi Arabia and all the world’s Muslims on the ocCASion of the Eid Al-Fitr, King Salman urged Muslims to unite and condemned terrorism and extremism, stressing their contradiction to Islam.
The Jeddah blast was the first bombing in years to attempt to target foreigners in the kingdom. “They regard the Saudi monarchy as having betrayed Islam”.
The kingdom’s special emergency force, answering to the Interior Ministry, comprises quick-response security officers used for a variety of situations, including rescues, riot control and other police actions. ISIS’ statement claims the emergency force played a significant role in torturing ISIS supporters.
An official of the USA state department said no American citizens or consulate staff were hurt in the Jeddah blast.
The head of the Algerian diplomacy said that “terrorism chose to strike one of the most sacred places of our Holy religion at this particular time when all Muslims’ eyes are precisely heading for the Holy Places to glorify the values of our religion that sanctifies human life”.
Four people and the attacker were killed, the source said, as people broke their fast on the last night of Ramadan. It would seem senseless to undertake that kind of action, he said, and he expects it would be greeted with “strong condemnation and puzzlement” by the Muslim faithful.
Militant attacks on Medina, home to the Prophet’s Mosque and the second-holiest site in Islam, are unprecedented.
Security officers became suspicious of a man near the vehicle park of Dr Suleiman Faqeeh Hospital which is directly across from the U.S. diplomatic mission. When officers approached him, the man detonated what appeared to be an explosive belt.
“If this explosion happened on any other day there would’ve been a lot of a chaos, a lot of chaos”.
Two security officers were lightly injured in the incident.
Police found three devices inside the bomber’s vehicle.
“They are renegades from the (true) religion who have left behind the Muslim flock and their imam, violating all sanctities”, the Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars said in a statement.
The Interior Ministry is investigating the case, according to the SPA.
