Authorities were reassessing how to handle the other four devices after the first one exploded.

What we know: Twenty-nine people were injured when an explosion went off in the Chelsea neighborhood of NY at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

New York City Police Department officers arrive to keep watch near the site of an explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, Sept. 18, 2016. Officials familiar with the investigation said that it’s connected to the investigation at the Elizabeth NJ Transit station. As the robot was doing so, one of the devices detonated.

Rahami was captured by police in Linden, New Jersey, according to officials after a shoot out that left him and one officer injured.

New York’s governor now says it looks like the Manhattan bombing could be an act of terrorism with a foreign connection.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents are also investigating the discovery Sunday of five devices in a backpack near a New Jersey train station.

Investigators said they found similarities between this device and the bomb that exploded in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood Saturday evening, but have not linked the two events at this time.

Two men discovered the backpack, filled with suspicious devices, in a trash can just 500 feet from the train tracks. A forensic examination of the device will be sent to the FBI Laboratory at Quantico, Virginia, police said.

New Jersey Transit says service has been suspended between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.

Bollwage said that he wasn’t willing to say that Elizabeth had become a target, and that it was possible that someone anxious about the authorities was trying to get rid of the package.

The backpack had up to five devices, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage said.

NEW YORK – Authorities have identified a suspect in the Manhattan explosion case as a 28-year-old New Jersey resident of Afghan descent who may be armed and unsafe, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday, Sept. 19. Three pipe bomb devices were also found later in another part of New Jersey.

The investigation into the series of bombs that rocked NY and New Jersey has been centered on Elizabeth today, where federal authorities conducted a raid on Rahami’s apartment above a fried chicken restaurant on Elmora Avenue.

“The robots that were going in to disarm it cut a wire and it exploded”, Mayor Bollwage told NY1.

On Sunday night, New Jersey Transit officials closed the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coastline rail service overnight, but said both resumed service at around 5:30 a.m. ET. The men called police after reportedly seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package.
