Preliminary reports indicate that the incident took place in a boiler room, and the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak. Two firefighters also were hurt.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue is on the scene.

There was reportedly an explosion Friday at the newly built Chateau Beach Residences condo tower in Sunny Isles Beach.

7 show a blown out wall at the top of the building that is believed to have sent chunks and debris to the ground below.

More than a dozen fire trucks were still outside the building Friday afternoon, and a portion of Collins Avenue was closed to traffic. “We are on scene with Ocean Rescue, assisting them as they need us”, said Sunny Isles Beach Sgt. Brian Schnell in a news statement today.

Officials said that the building where the explosion took place was under construction at the time; the only people who would have been inside the building were construction workers.
