DAMATURU, Nigeria, July 10 (Reuters) – Boko Haram Islamist militants have attacked the northern Nigerian town of Buni Yadi, which they lost to a Nigerian army offensive in March, military sources said.

Boko Haram this week claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement in Arabic on Twitter.

There was no information on casualties after the attack, which started at around 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Thursday, the sources said on Friday. It was the third attack in N’Djamena in less than a month – a spate of violence widely believed to have been organized by Nigeria-based Islamic extremists.

Boko Haram this year became the West African franchise of the Islamic State group, which has called for more attacks during the holy month of Ramadan.
