Explosive device found in vehicle near Albuquerque airport

Authorities gave the all-clear Sunday after an “explosive device” was found attached to a rental auto at Albuquerque International Sunport.

“We’re not really commenting on any specifics at this time”, Mangan said when asked for confirmation that it was a customer who returned the auto, and whether employees had access to it.

The device was under a vehicle returned to the facility Sunday, said officer Simon Drobik of the Albuquerque Police Department.

Roads near the Avis Car Rental facility were closed causing delays to travelers at the rental facility.

Miranda says she spent hours consoling rental auto workers who were told to stay at their posts.

But the airport remained open and no flights were affected.

The bomb squad deemed the device “credible”, Drobik said.

There were “no explosives associated with the device”, said Thomas Mangan, spokesman for the Arizona Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms.

Agents from ATF and the FBI will conduct a separate investigation.

The auto was rented from another location and dropped off early Sunday morning, according to officials. Police also declared a parking terminal secure.
