ATLANTA | Extreme drought conditions are now being felt in the city of Atlanta and more of its suburbs, though recent rains have eased dry conditions in some other parts of Georgia, the latest national report on the drought shows. The only other NY dry spell that was categorized as “extreme” was in the late winter and spring of 2002.

Specifically, most of Erie and Genesee counties are in an extreme drought.

The area of “extreme” drought in MA expanded dramatically since the last update from the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The dryness has even creeped up into Southern New Hampshire, where 4 percent of the Granite State is under an Extreme Drought.

Most of Central Massachusetts is in severe drought, the monitor said.

The monitor is a collaboration of federal agencies and the University of Nebraska’s National Drought Mitigation Center.
