Extreme Skier Killed In Avalanche While Filming For Ubisoft Game

Her death occurred almost two years after the Chilean avalanche deaths of famed extreme skiers Jean-Philippe Auclair, a Canadian, and Carl Andreas Fransson, a Swede. It was announced on July 18 that the 30-year-old athlete had passed away as a result of oxygen deprivation and brain damage, according to a report from Polygon.

She won the Xtreme Verbier event at the 2013 Freeride World Tour, has been featured in a number of movies including Shades of Winter and Pure, will be featured in the upcoming film Between, and penned articles for Women’s Health magazine.

Rapaport herself had a close call with an avalanche back in 2014 in Alaska.

Matilda Rapaport was caught in an avalanche in the Andes mountains near the capital city Santiago while filming a scene, her sponsor Red Bull said in a statement.

“It’s hard to find words. Skiing with her was always the way skiing should be-fun”.

“This is a huge shock for the freeride community and the FWT family”, Cenci said. Sources report that she was on as skiing during a filming trip on Thursday in a steep area when she was swept away.

Born and raised in Stockholm, Rapaport started skiing at an early age and climbed the ranks of ski racing. She was part of a group of Swedish freeskiers who moved to Engelberg, Switzerland, and helped establish it as one of the most iconic locales in the world for big mountain skiers.

“We are deeply saddened to learn the death of Matilda Rapaport, the remarkable Swedish freeskiing athlete”, a Ubisoft spokesperson said, as reported by GameSpot.

Our thoughts are with Rapaport’s family and friends, and the ski community at large. A freeride skier, Rapaport appeared in a string of viral videos coasting down steep, rocky mountain faces around the world.
