‘Extreme vetting’ needed for immigrants to US

A subdued Mr Trump, delivering what his campaign billed as a major speech on terrorism in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, invoked comparisons to the Cold War era in arguing that the USA must wage an unrelenting ideological fight if it is to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “Trump’s Ideological Vetting Plan Would Banish Most Republicans”, said a Muslim writer at The Daily Beast.

Trump also said he plans to halt immigration from nations with a “history of exporting terrorism” until new procedures are implemented by the USA government to properly screen applications from those parts of the world.

Trump outlined his call for vetting of immigrants on August 15, amid growing concern over jihad attacks by Islamic migrants.

Again, Trump did not make clear whether the new “extreme vetting” would apply to all visitors, or simply select people, or those from specific countries.

Trump stressed that those who did not believe in the Constitution or who support bigotry and hatred will not be admitted for immigration into the country if he is elected as President.

The goal, Trump said, is to ensure that anyone entering the US shares American values.

“Just as we won the Cold War, in part by exposing the evils of communism and the virtues of free markets, so too must we take on the ideology of radical Islam”, said Mr Trump.

Potential allies in the fight against the Islamic State include Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Russia, Trump said. “I call it extreme, extreme vetting”.

Trump said, “There are many such regions” and he vows to “stop processing visas from those areas until such time as it is deemed safe to resume based on new circumstances or new procedures”.

‘Military, cyber and financial warfare will all be necessary to dismantle Islamic Terrorism.

Also speaking out was HIAS, the lead Jewish group advocating for immigrants and refugees. He has not mentioned the name of any particular country and said if he becomes president, he will give a list of applicable countries to the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department.

I have previously said North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was obsolete because it failed to deal adequately with terrorism.

“The Obama-Clinton foreign policy has unleashed the ISIS, destabilised the Middle East, and put the nation of Iran – which chants “Death to America” – in a dominant position of regional power and, in fact, aspiring to be a dominant world power”, he said.

But while the USA focuses on individually screening whether someone should be excluded based on terrorist activity, Mr Trump’s plan appears to issue a blanket approach, Mr Johnson said.

Trump laid the blame for the so-called “Age of Terror” squarely at the feet of President Obama and Hillary Clinton, describing their foreign policy as failed and unsafe. “But we will not defeat it with closed eyes, or silenced voices”, he said. “I have often said that General MacArthur and General Patton would be in a state of shock if they were alive today to see the way President Obama and Hillary Clinton try to recklessly announce their every move before it happens – like they did in Iraq – so that the enemy can prepare and adapt”.

“The rise of ISIS is the direct result of policy decisions made by President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton”, he said.
