F1: Nico Rosberg wins Italian GP As Hamilton Falters In Opening Lap

Lewis Hamilton says he is baffled by the poor start that wrecked his Italian Grand Prix win chances and only accepted the blame initially to reassure his Mercedes Formula 1 team.

Oh, oh-OH-oh oh OHH OHH.

“It’s a great day for Mercedes and I’m glad to be a part of it”, he shared.

We all give McLaren a lot of (deserved) stick because of the unreliability of their vehicle in recent years, but credit where it’s due – Fernando Alonso logged the quickest lap time of the race.

Hamilton threw away what had looked set to be a certain win with a poor start after he had taken pole position with a scintillating performance on Saturday.

When the lights went out at Monza, Hamilton seemed to be moving in slow motion as Rosberg and four other cars streamed past him before the first corner.

Lewis Hamilton was a happy, buoyant driver going into the summer break of the F1 season, having gone on a winning run which saw him climb past his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg and into pole position in the drivers’ championship standings.

Rosberg said his approach had not changed through the fluctuations in the championship. “I had a really good start, made up a lot of places and was trying to pass Nasr”, Palmer said. “So it was all there”.

This means that the next race in Singapore could possibly see Rosberg overtake Hamilton in the championship, if the Brit doesn’t gain some momentum and win his third race in the Singapore Grand Prix. “It’s always going to be a great battle and I look forward to what’s to come”.

Hamilton appeared to get bogged down off the line, getting passed by both Ferraris, Bottas and Ricciardo into Turn 1. “Live to fight another day”.

“When you start to blame this is when it goes downhill because people will try to protect their arse and make sure they have a conservative system in place rather than putting the best development on the vehicle”. “We continue to have an inconsistency with our clutch.

I’m sure Ferrari will come back”, Vettel said.

“I knew my engineers would be anxious and nervous of how the start went, so that’s why I tried to put their minds at ease”, Hamilton said.

Sebastian Vettel at least gave the Italian crowd something to cheer about by putting his Ferrari on the podium, finishing third, ahead of his team-mate Kimi Räikkönen.

Rosberg celebrated with a series of fist pumps when he got out of his auto, playfully jabbing at a TV camera.

Already fastest in qualifying, Mercedes’ single pit-stop strategy proved better than Ferrari’s two-stop plan.

Rosberg remained untroubled out in front for his 21st career win and puts him back into the title race ahead of the Singapore GP. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo finished 5th, Valtteri Bottas of Williams 6th, Red Bull “s Max Verstappen 7th”.

Pushing hard to catch Rosberg in the final laps, Hamilton’s wheels locked up at the first chicane and he bounced across the speed bumps, costing him more than a second.
