F1 should keep radio messages private: Alonso

Honda are expected to change the architecture of their engine this winter, to facilitate a more efficient and effective installation of the turbo and ERS systems.

Honda have used up their last four “tokens” to develop their engine this season, which means that while Alonso will get an updated version for Russian Federation he will also pay the price for exceeding his allocation.

At the Belgian Grand Prix this year at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, team McLaren incurred a record total of 105 place penalties after both drivers received new internal combustion engines.

In the days after the grand prix McLaren confirmed Jenson Button for next season but nothing was said of his team-mate which added fuel to the rumour mill.

Do we need to have confirmation that you’re staying at McLaren? The power is actually very strong for a manufacturer in their first year.

But he said that, overall, he and Button had been very supportive of the team despite their uncompetitive performances this season. To be able to do that for another year, I needed to know there was something positive – and I definitely feel there are a lot of good things coming. “There was so much emotion in one way or another. I want to develop, to help and I want to direct this team to help it succeed”. They have not finished as low as ninth since 1980 and Honda’s power unit could not be further away from the all-conquering engine they gave McLaren in the late 1980s and early 90s.

“But I am happy that it was only broadcast in Suzuka because if you hear all the races, all the radio messages, from me or from Jenson you will be even more surprised”. “And that was what was exciting for me to see that there was a lot happening”.

“I was also at the MTC [McLaren Technology Centre] last week, spending a lot of time with the engineers, aerodynamicsts, running through everything on the engine programme, and that’s the reason why I chose to stay”.

“There is a real drive and it’s fantastic to see, considering how bloody hard this year has been”.

“We’ll let that comment lie for now”, Manor F1 tweeted. That is what the problem is.

“We installed a new engine for FP1, then removed it and fitted an existing one for FP2”.
