FA Cup boost for Tottenham as Leicester star man ruled out

Leicester City’s Sheffield-born striker Jamie Vardy is set to undergo a minor groin operation, the club have confirmed.

The Foxes huffed and puffed and Jamie Vardy failed to find the back of the net for a fourth successive match as Leicester fell two points adrift of Arsenal at the Premier League summit.

Last season that total would have secured second place, but Leicester have taken only two points from their last three games, without scoring.

Pearson said: “I would encourage him to stay, but it’s not for me to do that”.

Vardy went closest to a victor with a flicked header from a corner that looped just wide, while the striker also wanted a second penalty when he was tumbled under the challenge of Gosling, but Marriner pointed for a goal kick.

The timing of this surgery might give an indication about how Claudio Ranieri will approach them.

“Leicester continue to do exceptionally well and I can take quite a bit of pride in how well things have been set up”, added the former Southampton manager.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says he is unlikely to appeal against the controversial red card for Francis – because he will only miss an FA Cup tie.

He is now joint-first with Everton star Romelu Lukaku in the league’s top scorers chart with the pair so far scoring 15 goals each.

I think when you play with 10 men for such a long spell in the game, to come away with anything is a huge result and full credit to my players for that.

The FA Cup this weekend offers Leicester a break from the Premier League; their opponents are Spurs, a team in fine form this season.

The Italian showed his true colours though when he said that “for the players it’s champagne” and then said he was “buying the pizza”.
