Facebook 360-Degree Videos Come to Oculus VR

Another added feature is the ability to watch Twitch and Vimeo streams in a virtual room with friends via Oculus Social. Just the opposite, Oculus has opened up a new social platform called Oculus Social. The tech mogul has talked before about a future where social networking will feel more immersive because of virtual reality, allowing people to experience moments like a baby’s first step like they are standing there in person.

In contrast, augmented reality, which is expected to account for much of VR/AR revenue by 2020, provides virtual information that is projected into the user’s line of sight without occluding visibility. Also the social media giant aims to launch games for the Samsung Gear VR, which will cost users around $100, that too above the initial $599 for the device itself. Starting Thursday, you’ll be able to create a profile connected to your name and Oculus username in order to connect with friends on the platform.

Are you looking forward to getting a little more social with your Gear VR time?

“…pretty soon we’re going to live in a world where everyone has the power to share and experience whole scenes as if you’re just there right there in person”, Zuckerberg told an audience strapped into VR headsets at last month’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. “Herobound: Gladiators” , for example, is a multiplayer co-op adventure game in which you and your friends battle to conquer goblins and demons using integrated voice chat.

It’s a neat concept in theory, though it’s dependent on having friends who own a Gear VR headset. Presumably, these videos will appear on the user’s personal timeline within Oculus Social.

In the coming weeks, users will also be able to like and share their favorite Facebook 360 videos from within VR and the company also says that it will release new tools for developers that make it easier to create more social VR games and apps.
